If git finds a '\r' character in the message, then it
converts the entire message content into Quoted-Printable
encoding. It appears that when groups.io converts the QP
encoding back to text format, the '\r' characters somehow
become '\n'. To workaround this, the SetupGit.py script
will now explicitly set the sendemail.transferEncoding git
config option to '8bit'

In patch set 13c5e34a - 0c3e8e99, we implemented incremental build with
using compiler/pre-processor generate dependent header file function.
A issue is found for MSVC compiler, that the cl.exe /showIncludes
build option generate header file list to either stdout or stderr.
For .c file, the header file list is print out to stdout while for
.vfr, .aslc and .nasm file, the file list is print out to stderr.
The build tool use two threads to process the message from stdout and
stderr, but to generate correct *.deps file, build tool need to
combine the header file list from stderr and other messages from stdout
together with correct time sequence order.
So this patch is trying to combine the stdout and stderr together for
the process which is for calling make program.
The impact of this patch is that the output message of build with -q
will be changed. The compiler error message will not print out.
The build behavior of other log level setting will not be impacted.

This patch is to fix a regression issue that build fails
if multiple build targets given.
Two changes cause this regression issue.
One is AutoGen object __hash__ function only
hash file path and arch, missing ToolChain and build target.
The other is changing the multiple-thread-genfds function as default
build behavior. To generate the genffs command to Makefile, there
is a global data set is used, GenFdsGlobalVariable, which cause build
tool use the data of first build-target build in
the second build-target build.

Redesign the binary cache and bases on the compiler to
output the dependency header files info for every module.
The binary cache will directly consume the dependency header
files info and doesn't parse the C source code by iteself.
Also redesign the dependency files list format for module
and try to share the common lib hash result as more as
possible in local process. Remove the unnecessary share data
access across multiprocessing.

This patch is to fix a build tool regression issue which was introduced
by commit b8ac0b7f28.This issue caused map file lost the line of IMAGE=***.
For example,in Ovmf.map, there is no line of (IMAGE=<path to efi> ) under
each of modules item.
The path to the efi file generated by each module is written on this line
The purpose of this line is add the debug image full path.
there is no information about the module in the map file other than FVName,
it allows us to quickly know which module this part corresponds to.
In commit b8ac0b7f28,add a line ("self.BuildModules = []") in function,
but it's used to calculate the variable ModuleList in the following code.

Currently a PCD (e.g. FeaturePCD) cannot be used in a conditional
statement in a DSC/FDF file without a module in the build referencing
the PCD package DEC file.
An example implementation that to support this is to allow a [Packages]
section in the DSC file to list additional package dependencies for PCD
references in the package DSC/FDF files.

Add use of RC_PATH define that provides the path to the resource
compiler that is typically provided in a Windows SDK. The path
changes with different Windows SDK releases. This define is set
to the WINSDK_PATH_FOR_RC_EXE environment variable. This
environment variable must be set to the path to the currently
installed resource compiler (rc.exe).
Update set_vsprefix_envs.bat to set WINSDK_PATH_FOR_RC_EXE
if a Windows SDK is detected.

In order to permit the use of compilers that only implement the small
code model [which involves the use of ADRP instructions that require
4 KB segment alignment] for generating PE/COFF binaries with a small
footprint, we patch ADRP instructions into ADR instructions while doing
the ELF to PE/COFF conversion.
As it turns out, the linker may be doing the same, but for different
reasons: there is a silicon erratum #843419 for ARM Cortex-A53 which
affects ADRP instructions appearing at a certain offset in memory, and
one of the mitigations for this erratum is to patch them into ADR
instructions at link time if the symbol reference is within -/+ 1 MB.
However, the LD linker fails to update the static relocation tables, and
so we end up with an ADR instruction in the fully linked binary, but
with a relocation entry in the RELA section identifying it as an ADRP
instruction.
Since the linker has already updated the symbol reference, there is no
handling needed in GenFw for such instructions, and we can simply treat
it as an ordinary ADR. However, since it is guaranteed to be accompanied
by an add or load instruction with a LO12 relocation referencing the same
symbol, the section offset check we apply to ADR instructions is going to
take place anyway, so we can just disregard the ADR instruction entirely.

CLANG9 generated PE image exposes below two issues.
1. SectionSize is used to copy PE section data. It should be smaller than
section raw size.
2. The real data is required to be copied. So, copy the min size of

When c/h file use macro after #include, for example,
In this case, GenMake is not able to create a healthy dependency for the c
file. GenMake used to add $(FORCE_REBUILD) dependency in the c file, this
guarantee the c file is always compiled in incremental build. But, this
function is broken since 05217d210e which
enable /MP for MSVC compiler, in order to compile multiple c files in one
command multi-processing. The fix here is adding '$(FORCE_REBUILD)' back to
retain the original function.
Line number 1728 and 978 are the code pieces which handle this logic.

Commit 0075ab2cec introduced an issue that causes an exception
when multiple workspace packages paths are specified. For example,
if edk2-platforms is used, the root directory will contain an edk
and edk2-platforms directory representing the respective
repositories.
In GenMake, the path to the package DEC file for a module is
discovered by getting the relative path of the INF to the
workspace root directory. Each directory in the relative path
is incrementally joined to the WORKSPACE directory. The file
list in the joined path is searched for a DEC file.
As an example, if the build command is used on a package outside
the edk2 repository, the INF file path is relative to the
edk2-platforms directory not edk2. This causes directory paths
to be built that do not exist. Commit 0075ab2cec replaced the
os.path.exists() call with a try except block that always fails
when os.listdir() is invoked to enumerate the list of files in
the built directory path on packages outside edk2.
This commit restores the original conditional statement which
avoids calling os.listdir() with an invalid directory path.

The AArch64 definitions of UINT64/INT64 differ from the X64 ones.
Since this is on the tool side, doing like X64 and picking the

This patch is going to fix the lib order in static_library_files.lst.
This issue is introduced by commit 673d09a2dd.
Before 673d09a2dd, build tool apply build rule for the module's library
firstly and then apply build rule for module itself. Now, build tool
apply build rule for module self and then for its library. That behavior
impact the lib order in static_library_files.lst.
This patch is to call module's LibraryAutoGenList function
explicitly, where the applying build rule action for
library is triggered.

The current CopyFileOnChange() method in Misc.py does not
accept the input SrcFile parameter as a dir, but the method
does not check the SrcFile is dir or not. This patch is to

After checking that if the build can't

When building BaseTools, GNUmakefile builds create directory
BaseTools/Source/C/libs/. On the other hand, Makefile builds use libs
as an nmake pseudo target, so it either must NOT exist as a file or
directory, OR it must phony dependency like .PHONY. The latter
solution conflicts with NmakeSubdirs.py. Therefore, I make it go away
in the cleanall target. I could also add it to the clean target, but
it strikes me that cleanall should be more forceful.

Hii Pcd links to a efi variable. The Variable
default value is evaluated by related Hii Pcds
setting. If multiple Hii Pcds links to one variable,
and the offset overlap, the later Hii Pcds setting
should be effective. There is a tool bug that is if
the Pcds are in different dsc file which are included
into the platform dsc file, build tool does not get
the Pcds relative position correctly. That means
build tool does not know which Pcd is the later one. As
the result, the variable default value will be incorrect.
This patch is to fix this bug.

We are going to add keyword (lower case) 'static' for functions and global
variables which are not referenced outside their current C file.
However, the ECC tool only recognizes upper case 'STATIC' at this moment.
This will lead to issue reports for new codes that follow the above coding
style.

We take great care to avoid GOT based relocations in EDK2 executables,
primarily because they are pointless - we don't care about things like
the CoW footprint or relocations that target read-only sections, and so
GOT entries only bloat the binary.
However, in some cases (e.g., when building the relocatable PrePi SEC
module in ArmVirtPkg with the CLANG38 toolchain), we may end up with
some GOT based relocations nonetheless, which break the build since
GenFw does not know how to deal with them.
The relocations emitted in this case are ADRP/LDR instruction pairs
that are annotated as GOT based, which means that it is the linker's
job to emit the GOT entry and tag it with an appropriate dynamic
relocation that ensures that the correct absolute value is stored into
the GOT entry when the executable is loaded. This dynamic relocation is
not visible to GenFw, and so populating the PE/COFF relocation section
for these entries is non-trivial.
Since each ADRP/LDR pair refers to a single symbol that is local to the
binary (given that shared libraries are not supported), we can actually
convert the ADRP/LDR pair into an ADRP/ADD pair that produces the symbol
address directly rather than loading it from memory. This leaves the
GOT entry in the binary, but since it is now unused, it is no longer
necessary to emit a PE/COFF relocation entry for it.

The Basetool CopyFileOnChange() and SaveFileOnChange()
functions might raise the IOError occasionally when build
in Windows with multi-process and build cache enabled.
The CopyFileOnChange() and SaveFileOnChange() might be invoked
in multiple sub-processes simultaneously, and this patch adds
global locks to sync these functions invoking which can
harden their reliability.

Current build cache use the module's [self.Arch][self.Name]
info as the ModuleAutoGen object key in hash list and dictionary.
The [self.Arch][self.Name] is not safe as the module key because
there could be two modules with same module name and arch name in
one platform. E.g. A platform can override a module or library
instance in another different path, the overriding module can has
the same module name and arch name as the original one.
Directly use the ModuleAutoGen obj self as the key, because
the obj __hash__ and __repr__ attributes already contain the
full path and arch name.

Current cache hash algorithm does not parse and generate
the makefile to get the accurate dependency files for a
module. It instead use the platform and package meta files
to get the module depenedency in a quick but over approximate
way. These meta files are monolithic and involve many redundant
dependency for the module, which cause the module build
cache miss easily.
This patch introduces one more cache checkpoint and a new
hash algorithm besides the current quick one. The new hash
algorithm leverages the module makefile to achieve more
accurate and precise dependency info for a module. When
the build cache miss with the first quick hash, the
Basetool will caculate new one after makefile is generated
and then check again.

Build raise exception if there is libraryclass
missing in dsc file and --pcd build option is used.
Build should report the missing libraryclass but not
a call stack.
This patch is going to fix it.

AutoGen processes race the logfile. To resolve this issue,
this patch create a LogAgent thread in main process to write
the log content to console or file, Other process will send
the log content to the LogAgent.

1. Separate the AutoGen.py into 3 small py files.
One is for AutoGen base class, one is for WorkspaceAutoGen class
and PlatformAutoGen class, and the one for ModuleAutoGen class.
2. Create a new class DataPipe to store the Platform scope settings.
Create a new class PlatformInfo to provide the same interface
as PlatformAutoGen. PlatformInfo class is initialized by
DataPipe instance.
Create a new class WorkspaceInfo to provide the same interface
as WorkspaceAutoGen. WorkspaceInfo class is initialized by
DataPipe instance.
3. Change ModuleAutoGen to depends on DataPipe, PlatformInfo and
WorkspaceInfo. Remove the dependency of ModuleAutoGen to PlatformAutoGen.

'git show' is used to extract the patch contents for analysis.
Add the flag '--no-textconv' to the 'git show' command to
disable the conversion from some binary file types to text
content.
Without this change, binary files such as .pdf files are
converted to text in the show command and PatchCheck complains
that the wrong line endings are used in the patch.

When files are very similar, git will copy an existing
file to a new location and then apply differences. This

lstrip(parameter) do the match based on the char
in parameter but not only the whole parameter string.
In GenMake line 1082,
CmdSign.lstrip('/Fo') will strip the '/' or
'F' or 'o' on the left of CmdSign. This is not expected.

Add TOOLS_DEF.ARCH file to all workspace meta files list.
TOOLS_DEF.ARCH include the evaluated Tool definition information
which is filtered by current tool_chain.
With this change, when the environment variable which
is used in ToolDef.txt is changed, build tool will
rebuild the platform.

Commit 3c59d94637 ("BaseTools/FCE: Add a tool FCE") added a new tool
that is always built. Pre-existing tools locate the makefile includes
with relative paths, but FCE uses EDK_TOOLS_PATH, adding a new dependency
on having sourced edksetup.sh before building BaseTools.
Change FCE GNUmakefile to match other tools.

1)Add arguments "--embedded-driver" to support embedded driver
in command line.

The update is in a backwards compatible manner, so all command

Basetool need a CopyFileOnChange() function to avoid cache
file writing race in multi-thread build. Some platforms
build fail with file IO writing race issue when the
build cache is enabled to store cache files in multi-threads.
This is because common same library cache files (e.g. some
libs in MdePkg) can be stored by many different driver modules'
build threads at same time. Current build cache need a function
to check whether the same cache file already exist, and only
copy source file if it is different from the destination file.
This patch introduces an atomic copy function to avoid duplicated
cache files copy.

Build cache cannot store cache for the same library modules
in different arch together. E.g. Both the below IA32 and X64
arch BaseLib caches should exist after build Ovmf3264, but now
only the one in X64 arch exist.
The reason is the current Basetool use a set() to same all
library AutoGen objects, but the different arch lib AutoGen
objects have same __hash_ value which comes from the lib
MetaFile(The path of module file):
def __hash__(self):
return hash(self.MetaFile)
So the different arch lib AutoGen objects are duplicated one

can only store one arch cache for library.
This patch adds the arch string into the PlatformAutoGen and
ModuleAutoGen __hash_ definitions and ensure the different
platform and module AutoGen objects have different __hash_ values.

Build need output the cache miss or hit notification
message when consume the build cache. Current build does not
output any message which is not clear for user to know
whether the module built result is from cache or not.

Current build cache cannot store the cache for library package.
build -p MdePkg\MdePkg.dsc -a IA32 -b DEBUG -t VS2015x86 --hash
--binary-destination=BinCache
After build, the expected result is the BinCache folder is generated
and the MdePkg build cache files (e.g. .hash and .lib) are stored in
the BinCache folder. But the BinCache folder is not generated at all.
This patch is going to fix that issue.

creation and modification times to the current time.
Preserve the new restored file creation time as old

Current Binary Cache use the PlatformInfo.Name to distinguish
the different platform cache paths in the database folder.
But the different platforms might use the same PLATFORM_NAME
in the DSC files. Different platform caches might overlay each
other inside Binary Cache database if they use same platform name
Use the PlatformInfo.Platform.OutputDirectory instead of the
PlatformInfo.Name can solve the problem.
This patch is going to fix that issue.

In V3: Must generate hashes before attempting to copy from cache for
hash verifcation
In V2: Build failure caused by passing incorrect boolean parameter to
SaveFileOnChange(). Fixed for patch instances.
Library hashing is now supported by the --hash feature. The --hash
feature implementation assumed that the hashing could be done in
place once per module, but that isn't true for libraries due to the
fact that they are built as dependencies. So on a clean build, we now
generate the .hash after the library dependencies are complete.
Added early escape as optimization, if hash already exists in memory.

When a module in a DSC file uses a FILE_GUID override in the
module scoped <Defines> section, a copy of the modified INF file
is placed in the Conf/.cache directory. The check for private
includes uses the INF path to determine if the module is allowed
to use the private includes. Since the INF path in this case is
not in any package, this check always fails, and no private
include paths are possible.
The fix is to keep both the OriginalPath and the new Path in
the PathClass object, and always use the OriginalPath to see if
the module INF is in the package with private includes.

This patch is to fix the code bug in StructurePcd overall
value assignment logic. If a Pcd Array size is fixed but the
size of actual value in Dsc or Dec is bigger than the Pcd
array size, the tool will report error about such setting and
stop build.
The patch is tested minplatform, Ovmf, structure pcd regression test
These tests are build pass. The patch also tested the following cases.
Our cases focused on PcdArraySize. 1.flexiable PcdArraySize.
2.Fixed PcdArraySize, Pcd overall value exceeds the size of PcdArray.
3.Fixed PcdArraySize, Pcd overall value Not exceeds the size of PcdArray.

Some compiler flags restrict the compiler from making
arbitrary decisions while handling undefined C/C++ behaviors.
Therefore they can be used to fix some issues caused by undefined behavior.
For example, for GCC, the following flags are available:
-fno-delete-null-pointer-checks tells
the compiler NOT to assume that null pointer deference does not exist.
-fwrapv tells the compiler that signed overflow always wraps.
This patch is going to add these 2 build options to
BaseTool GCC build option.

On some build environment, build fails but on the other build machines,
build success. This is the regression issue introduced by commit
05217d210e
As Dict is unordered, an error occurs when extract the index of the Dict
in the order of the keys after the creation of a new item.
Keys are indexed inconsistently before and after adding a new item.
The logic of the program is to store the key's corresponding index as
reference data in the MakeFile and use it as part of the macro.
The data model is: $(LIST_%d) % Dict.keys().index(Key)
So for now, use OrdereDict instead of Dict.

On Windows OS, sometime the generated file is not immediate saved to disk.
When run nmake, prompt AutoGen.h not found, and stop build.

In the Multiple thread Genfds feature, build tool generates
GenSec, GenFFS command in Makefile.
The Non-Hii Driver does not generate .offset file for uni string offset,
but the build tool has not knowledge about this in autogen phase. So
in this patch, I add a check in Makefile for GenSec command. If the GenSec
input file does not exist, the GenSec will not be called. And if GenSec
command is not called, its output file, which is also the input file of
GenFfs command, will also not exist.So for GenFfs command,
I add a new command parameter -oi which means
the input file is an optional input file which would not exist. so
that I can generate GenFfs command with "-oi" parameter in Makefile.

With the change to BSD+Patent License, the TianoCore Contributor's
Agreement has been removed and as a result, a Contributed-under

The command trim --asl-file -o test.i UTF8.asl will trig the exception.
Trim tool should report error message for unsupported UTF8 file instead

This option is added to disable the include path check
for outside of package.
The original purpose of thie check is to make sure EDK II
modules must not reference header files outside of the packages
they depend on or within the module's directory tree.
However, we do see the usage to build EDKII as executable running
in the operating system which requires include path to outside.
For example, EmulatorPkg. The current solution (soft link) is
weird hack - EmulatorPkg\Unix\Host\X11IncludeHack.
With this solution, this can be supported easily.
The patch is validated with and without --disable-include-path-check.
If user does not use --disable-include-path-check, the build will fail
with outside path in the include path.
If user uses --disable-include-path-check, the build will pass
with outside path in the include path.

Compiler cache can greatly improve the build performance and
guarantee the build result safe. In our testing, the compiler
cache can improve the overall clean build time usually by 30+%
in linux and 10+% in windows. The compiler cache are very fit
to improve the Continuous Integration (CI) build performance.
For linux compiler cache (ccache) enabling, there is no need
to update edk2 code.

For windows compiler cache (clcache) enabling, we need update
the .PDB debugging file producing option from /Zi to /Z7,
which is to let the C object file contain its full symbolic
debugging information rather than produces a separated PDB file
for all obj files per folder. "PDB files are generated by a different
process (mspdbsrv). They arrive or are updated on disk after
cl completes a compilation or linking operation. One huge problem
with caching them is that the pdb files are input files as well as
outputs. mspdbsrv updates the file with new debug information if
the file exists beforehand. If there are several compilations going
on at once targetting the same pdb then the order the pdb gets
updated is unpredictable. All this makes caching very hard."

Please be aware that this change has no any impact to edk2 module
level PDB file generation, and we still can get the PDB debug file
for a .efi module. The /Z7 only impact intermediate obj files level
PDB file, which is current one PDB file (vc140.pdb) per obj folder.

This reverts commit 838bc257ba.
After further evaluation, there are the unclear behavior in for the
driver combination feature. To not impact Q1 stable tag, remove it first.
1. If the drivers to be combined have the different PCD or library instance
setting, build should not combine them and report build break. But this
commit doesn't consider this case.
2. When start the sub driver fail, continue to start other sub driver. This
behavior is required to be clarifed in build spec.
3. Unload the sub driver when the combined driver start fail. This case need
to call the sub driver unload function for the driver start fail only.

1) The GenC tool does not include the constructor/destructor for
USER_DEFINED module. It should be included.
Only constructor/destructor with BASE type is included here.
The constructor/destructor with PEI/DXE/SMM type is still excluded
to keep original behavior.
2) The GenC tool includes the UnloadImage code for BASE module.
It should NOT be included.
3) The GenC tool uses EFI_STATUS and ASSERT_EFI_ERROR for BASE type.
It should use RETURN_STATUS and ASSERT_RETURN_ERROR.
4) The GenC tool miss DebugLib.h for BASE or USER_DEFINED module
AutoGen.c. Only Base.h is there. It should add Library/DebugLib.h.

Defined 2 PCDs(Test4 & Test401) and 2 SKUs(DEFAULT & _),
then set "SKUID_Defines" to ALL, for FixedAtBuild
gEfiStructuredPcdPkgTokenSpaceGuid. Test401 in this case,
its value should get from "Default" SKU, not from "_" SKU,
but we does not set value in SKU "_" in dsc, so Test401
should only display the value get from dec.

With Python3, the dict.value() method returns an iterator.
If a dictionary is updated while an iterator on its keys is used,
a RuntimeError is generated.
Converting the iterator to a list() forces a copy of the mutable
keys in an immutable list which can be safely iterated.

To save the image size without the compression, more than
one drivers can be combined into single one. When more than
one drivers are combined, their depex will be AND together.
Below is the example to combine BootManagerPolicyDxe into
DriverHealthManagerDxe.
Besides this patch, BaseTools also needs to check the module
type and make sure all module type are same. Otherwise,
BaseTools will report the error.

BuildNotes.txt is to freeze BaseTools python. It is not used any longer.
BinaryFiles.txt is to list the file in Bin directory. But, Bin dir is empty.

For example, PCD gUefiOvmfPkgTokenSpaceGuid.Test001 datatype is Array:
TEST1[2]
and the filed TEST1UINT64ARRAY in TEST1 is also an array:
UINT64 TEST1UINT64ARRAY[2];
Then the following filed assignment in DSC will cause build failure.
gUefiOvmfPkgTokenSpaceGuid.Test001[0].TEST1UINT64ARRAY|{'A','B'}
The root cause is build tool generate incorrect PcdValueInit.c File.
This patch is going to fix this issue.

If there are multiple sku used in a platform and
gEfiMdeModulePkgTokenSpaceGuid.PcdNvStoreDefaultValueBuffer PCD
is used, build will fail.
This is a regression issue introduced by the commit:
5695877ec8 which only update the
Vpd offset for default SKU but not other SKUs.
This patch is going to fix this issue.

With Python3, the dict.value() method returns an iterator.
If a dictionary is updated while an iterator on its keys is used,
a RuntimeError is generated.
Converting the iterator to a list() forces a copy of the mutable
keys in an immutable list which can be safely iterated.
Commit f8d11e5a4a converted various uses but missed one:
When specifying multiple BUILDTARGET, the first target builds
successfully, but then the PGen.BuildDatabase._CACHE_ dictionary is
updated, and accessing the next target triggers a RuntimeError.
Convert this iterator to an immutable list, to solve this build error:

The goal of commit 97c8f5b9e7 ("BaseTools:StructurePCD value display
incorrect in "Not used" section.", 2019-02-02) was to display the full
contents of such structure PCDs in the build report that were set in the
platform DSC or the FDF, but not used in any module INFs. The listings
would appear in the
PCDs not used by modules or in conditional directives
section of the build report.
Commit 97c8f5b9e7 assumed that any (platform, architecture) combination
would have a (possibly empty) set of structure PCD (and so the set of the
structure PCDs could be filtered for set-but-unused ones).
This is not the case: in "DscBuildData.py", in method
UpdateStructuredPcds(), if "S_pcd_set" remains an empty OrderedDict(),
then it is not added to "GlobalData.gStructurePcd" *at all*, for the
current (platform, architecture) combination.
As a result, when the PCD report tries to fetch the set of structure PCDs
for the current (platform, architecture), "GlobalData.gStructurePcd" does
not return an empty OrderedDict(); instead, it raises a KeyError. Fix it
by defaulting to an empty OrderedDict(), with the get() method.

Defined 2 PCDs(Test4 & Test401) and 2 SKUs(DEFAULT & _),
then set "SKUID_Defines" to ALL, for FixedAtBuild
gEfiStructuredPcdPkgTokenSpaceGuid. Test401 in this case,
its value should get from "Default" SKU, not from "_" SKU,
but we does not set value in SKU "_" in dsc, so Test401
should only display the value get from dec.
Missing the map() function causes SKU specific items to

'NewLines.append(os.linesep)' to insert a new line into
the list that will be written to the output file.
This causes the '\r\n' inserted with os.linesep to be

DEC file defines PCD default value and PCD supported type.
DSC can configure PCD type and value.
If the value is same to default value in DEC file,
DSC can only configure PCD type and leave empty for value.
This usage supports all type PCD except for DynamicHii type.
So, DynamicHii PCD should support this usage. Below is one example in DSC.

GCC for 32-bit ARM chokes on .aslc files when running with LTO
enabled. Since LTO has no benefit whatsoever here, just disable

Build tool do not support SET syntax in DSC.
If the SET statement is used in DSC, build tool just ignore it.
That behavior confused some users that
they think SET statement works in DSC like in FDF.
To avoid such confusion, build tool report ERROR
if there is "SET" statement in Dsc file.

When an integer constant specified in the .vfr file is
too large for the varstore field it is being used with,
the VFR compiler reports an overflow warning like this:
Test.vfr(693): WARNING: Overflow: Value 1024 is too large to
store in a UINT8
: String to UINT* Overflow
Since Warning does not break the build process,
and it is easy to miss it.
This patch is to update the code to report error and break
the build if meet this kind of issue.

"tools_def.template" currently suggests, in the documentation of the
LzmaF86Compress utility, that said tool is generally unhelpful on binaries
built with the GCC44 toolchain, relative to LzmaCompress.
This statement doesn't apply to the GCC48 toolchain. I compressed 126
NOOPT_GCC48/IA32 unique EFI modules (built with gcc-4.8.5, as part of
OVMF) with both LzmaCompress and LzmaF86Compress. I repeated the same for
117 NOOPT_GCC48/X64 unique EFI modules. On average, the LzmaF86Compress
output size was 92.4% of the LzmaCompress output size in the IA32 case
(best relative compression: 86.01%, poorest relative compression: 97.47%
-- still a win). In the X64 case, the LzmaF86Compress output size was
92.95% of the LzmaCompress output size, on avarege (best relative
compression: 87.69%, poorest relative compression: 97.65% -- again, still
a win).
Given the consistent improvement from LzmaCompress to LzmaF86Compress,
remove the statement (rather than updating it to GCC48).

DLINK_COMMON definitions are not consumed by "build_rule.template";
instead, DLINK_COMMON definitions (internal to "tools_def.template") were
invented for sharing options between ASLDLINK_FLAGS and DLINK_FLAGS.
However, this intent doesn't actually apply to
GCC48_IA32_X64_DLINK_COMMON: it is never consumed. Furthermore, the
GCC45..GCC47 instances of IA32_X64_DLINK_COMMON too lead up to
GCC48_IA32_X64_DLINK_COMMON only -- they form a dead-end. Remove them
altogether, in order to simplify the subsequent patches.

This drops ARM and AARCH64 support from the GCC46 and GCC47 toolchain
definitions, which are on the list to be removed, along with VS2003,
VS2005, VS2008, VS2010, DDK3790, UNIXGCC, GCC44, GCC45, ELFGCC, CYGGCC,
ICC, ICC11 and MYTOOLS.
Since GCC46 and GCC47 are the only ones on that list that support ARM
and/or AARCH64, let's give Liming a hand and cover the ARM side of
things first, so that everything that remains to be removed is x86
only.

The standalone MM core is executed in place, and resides in a
separate execution context which may be space constrained.
Since code and data may be mapped with different attributes for
security reasons, the PE/COFF binary could have a section
alignment of 4 KB.
This means that any relocation data is not only useless, but it
will also take up 4 KB of valuable space.
So add support for the RELOCS_STRIPPED attribute on FFS files of
this type, so that we can get rid of the .reloc section altogether.

This patch is going to fix a regression issue that is introduced
by commit b3497bad12.
Before commit b3497b, build launched a external GenFds.py to generate
Fd, so the global variable in GenFds.py was reset in each execution.
After commit b3497b, each GenFds run in the same python interpeter, so
we need to explicitly reset global variable in each GenFdsApi call.

The 'arm-linux-gnueabihf' target triplet we use for CLANG35 and
CLANG38 specifies a hardfloat target, and so the binaries that are
emitted are annotated as using VFP registers for passing floating
point arguments, even though no VFP is used anywhere in the code.
This works fine as long as we don't try to link against code
that uses software floating point, but combining object files
with different floating point calling conventions is not permitted.
So switch to the softfloat arm-linux-gnueabi triplet instead.
This affects both the name Clang uses when invoking the linker,
and the arguments it passes to it, and we are mostly interested
in the latter (since any version of GNU ld.bfd will do the right
thing as long as it targets EABI ARM)
For native builds, this change has no effect, since the unprefixed
system linker will take priority, and so Clang will pass the right
arguments to whichever linker happens to be the system linker.
For cross builds, the fact that Clang composes the name of the
linker by prefixing '-ld' with the target triplet implies that
users will have to switch to a version of binutils that targets
arm-linux-gnueabi rather than arm-linux-gnueabihf. Note that the
GCCx toolchain targets can use either when building for ARM so this
does not create a need to install two versions of the ARM cross
toolchain. Also, note that all ARM toolchains in the GCC family
are already documented as requiring a toolchain that targets
arm-linux-gnueabi and not arm-linux-gnueabihf.

The ARM linker may emit veneers, i.e., trampolines, when ordinary
direct relative branches cannot be used, e.g., for Thumb interworking
or branch targets that are out of range.
Usually, such veneers carry an absolute reference to the branch
target, which is problematic for us, since these absolute references
are not covered by annotations that are visible to GenFw in the
PE/COFF conversion, and so these absolute references are not fixed
up by the PE/COFF loader at runtime.
So switch to all ARM GNU ld toolchains to position independent veneers.

The '-I' option only includes the directory of the nasm source file
(${s_path}(+)). Hence, it will be impossible for nasm files to include
files outside of the nasm source file directory.
As a comparison, the compile of both .s and .asm have $(INC) support
in their compile commands.

PE/COFF only has a very limited id space for runtime relocations, and
so it defines only a single relocation for movw/movt instruction pairs,
which can be combined to load a 32-bit symbol reference into a register.
For this to work as expected, these instructions must always appear in
the same order and adjacently, and this is something few compilers take
into account, unless they target PE/COFF explicitly (and this is not the
case for our ELF based toolchains)
For Clang 3.6 and later, we can pass the -mno-movt option to suppress
movw/movt pairs entirely, which works around the issue. Unfortunately,
for Clang 3.5, the option is called differently (-mllvm -arm-use-movt=0)
and mutually incompatible between 3.5 and 3.6.
Since it is desirable for the CLANG35 toolchain to be usable on newer
versions of Clang as well (given that it is the only non-LTO alternative
to CLANG38), let's work around this issue in a way that permits versions
3.5 and newer of Clang to be used with the CLANG35 profile.
So pass the -mkernel flag instead (and add -Qunused-argument so Clang
does not complain about the -mno-unaligned-access in ARM_CC_XIPFLAGS).
This also inhibits movw/movt generation, along with some other changes
(e.g., long calls) which do affect code generation but not in an
undesirable manner.

We currently permit R_ARM_GOT_PREL relocations in the ELF32 conversion
routines, under the assumption that relative relocations are fine as
long as the section layout is the same between ELF and PE/COFF.
However, as is the case with any proxy generating relocation, it is
up to the linker to emit an entry in the GOT table and populate it
with the correct absolute address, which should also be fixed up at
PE/COFF load time. Unfortunately, the relocations covering the GOT
section are not emitted into the static relocation sections processed
by GenFw, but only in the dynamic relocation section as a R_ARM_RELATIVE
relocation, and so GenFw fails to emit the correct PE/COFF relocation
data for GOT entries.
Since GOT indirection is pointless anyway for PE/COFF modules running
in UEFI context, let's just drop the references to R_ARM_GOT_PREL from
GenFw, resulting in a build time failure rather than a runtime failure
if such relocations do occur.

Since 4 KB section alignment is required when mapping PE/COFF images
with strict permissions, update the default section alignment when
using GCC49 and GCC5 in RELEASE mode. Note that XIP modules such as
SEC, PEIMs or PEI core are not affected by this change, since the
override to 32 byte aligment remains in effect.

Currently, AutoGen and GenFds run in different python interpreters. The
parser are duplicated. This patch is going to create new API for GenFds
and have the build to call that API instead of executing GenFds.py. As
such, the GenFds and build can share the parser data.
This patch is expected to save the time of GenFds about 2~3 seconds.
More details will be logged in BZ.
This is the summary measure data generated from python cProfile for
building Ovmf.
Currently:
8379147 function calls (8135450 primitive calls) in 12.580 seconds
After applying this patch:
3428712 function calls (3418881 primitive calls) in 8.944 seconds

The macro MAX_ADDRESS represents the largest virtual address that
is valid for a certain architecture. For the BaseTools, this quantity
is irrelevant, since the same tools can be used to build for different
targets.
Since we only refer to it in a single place, which is an ASSERT() that
doesn't seem particularly useful (it ensures that memcpy() will not
be called with arguments that will make it read beyond the end of the
address space and wrap around), let's drop the ASSERT and all references
to MAX_ADDRESS.

Don't use the native word size string to number parsing routines,
but instead, use the 64-bit one and cast to UINTN.
Currently, the only user is in Source/C/DevicePath/DevicePathFromText.c
which takes care to use Strtoi64 () unless it assumes the value fits
in 32-bit, so this change is a no-op even on 32-bit build hosts.

In the context of the BaseTools, there is no such thing as a native word
size, given that the same set of tools may be used to build a firmware
image consisting of both 32-bit and 64-bit modules.
So update StrToIpv4Address() and StrToIpv6Address() to use UINT64
types instead of UINTN types when parsing strings.

GCC link script is used to discard the unused section data from ELF image.
ASLDLINK_FLAGS requires it to remove the unnecessary section data, then

These operations are not order dependent.

1) remove wildcard imports and use explicit imports
2) refactor to use shared variables from Common/DataType
3) rename to not shadow imports
4) don't assign a variable in a loop (just do final assignment)
5) remove spaces, parens, unused or commented out code, etc.
6) merge unnecessary parent classes into child
7) refactor to share DXE and PEI apriori GUIDs from one place
this includes changes to Build and EOT files
8) for PEP8, dont use __ for custom methods.

.nasm source file may include some header files.
header file should be listed in Makefile as .nasm source file
dependency.
But now, BaseTools doesn't find them and list them in Makefile.
This is a missing, because original ASM file supports it.

original we get the VPD PCD items from the VPDGuid.map file in the FV
output folder. but this logic doesn't work when 1) there only have
single non Default SKU, 2) there have multiple SKU with same value.
Now we change it to get the really VPD Pcd items that already display
in the PCD section of the report.

Fix the bug for Pcd used in command line not override the Pcd used
in the [component] driver's sub-section.

Then we found the Pcd value in the AutoGen.c file is incorrect,
because of the incorrect logic that use the pcd in the [component]
section to re-override it.

The current code handle all the structure pcds
even if there is no module or library use them.
