Memory layout in CLoud Hypervisor for arm is changed and is different
with Qemu, thus we should build its own PeiMemInfoLib.
The main change in the memory layout is that normal ram may not contiguous
under 4G. The top 64M under 4G is reserved for 32bit device.
What this patch does:
1. get all of the memory node from DT;
2. Init page table for each memory node;

Following the Hardware Info library, create the DxeHardwareInfoLib
which implements the whole API capable of parsing heterogeneous hardware
information. The list-like API grants callers a flexible and common
pattern to retrieve the data. Moreover, the initial source is a BLOB
which generalizes the host-to-guest transmission mechanism.
The Hardware Info library main objective is to provide a way to
describe non-discoverable hardware so that the host can share the
available resources with the guest in Ovmf platforms. This change
features and embraces the main idea behind the library by providing
an API that parses a BLOB into a linked list to retrieve hardware
data from any source. Additionally, list-like APIs are provided so
that the hardware info list can be traversed conveniently.
Similarly, the capability is provided to filter results by specific
hardware types. However, heterogeneous elements can be added to the
list, increasing the flexibility. This way, a single source, for
example a fw-cfg file, can be used to describe several instances of
multiple types of hardware.
This part of the Hardware Info library makes use of dynamic memory
and is intended for stages in which memory services are available.
A motivation example is the PciHostBridgeLib. This library, part
of the PCI driver populates the list of PCI root bridges during DXE
stage for future steps to discover the resources under them. The
hardware info library can be used to obtain the detailed description
of available host bridges, for instance in the form of a fw-cfg file,
and parse that information into a dynmaic list that allows, first to
verify consistency of the data, and second discover the resources
availabe for each root bridge.

Define the HardwareInfoLib API and create the PeiHardwareInfoLib
which implements it, specifically for Pei usage, supporting
only static accesses to parse data directly from a fw-cfg file.
All list-like APIs are implemented as unsupported and only a
fw-cfg wrapper to read hardware info elements is provided.
The Hardware Info library is intended to describe non-discoverable
hardware information and share that from the host to the guest in Ovmf
platforms. The QEMU fw-cfg extension for this library provides a first
variation to parse hardware info by reading it directly from a fw-cfg
file. This library offers a wrapper function to the plain
QmeuFwCfgReadBytes which, specifically, parses header-data pairs out
of the binary values in the file. For this purpose, the approach is
incremental, reading the file block by block and outputting the values
only for a specific known hardware type (e.g. PCI host bridges). One
element is returned in each call until the end of the file is reached.
Considering fw-cfg as the first means to transport hardware info from
the host to the guest, this wrapping library offers the possibility
to statically, and in steps, read a specific type of hardware info
elements out of the file. This method reads one hardware element of a
specific type at a time, without the need to pre-allocate memory and
read the whole file or dynamically allocate memory for each new
element found.
As a usage example, the static approach followed by this library
enables early UEFI stages to use and read hardware information
supplied by the host. For instance, in early times of the PEI stage,
hardware information can be parsed out from a fw-cfg file prescinding
from memory services, that may not yet be available, and avoiding
dynamic memory allocations.

Alex reports that the cache invalidation performed by
ArmVirtMemoryInitPeiLib takes a non-negligible amount of time at boot.
This cache invalidation used to be necessary to avoid inconsistencies
between the CPU's cached and uncached views of the permanent PEI memory
region, given that the PEI phase is where the MMU gets enabled.
The only allocations done from permanent PEI memory with the MMU off are
pages used for page tables, and since commit 748fea6279
("ArmPkg/ArmMmuLib AARCH64: invalidate page tables before populating
them"), each of those is invalidated in the caches explicitly, for
reasons described in the patch's commit log. All other allocations done
in PEI are either from temporary PEI memory, which includes the stack,
or from permanent PEI memory but after the MMU has been enabled.
This means that the cache invalidation in ArmVirtMemoryInitPeiLib is no
longer necessary, and can simply be dropped.

necessary to scan extra root buses when getting root briges. And now
PciHostBridgeUtilityLib already provides a set of utility functions that
support for extra pci root buses, like PciHostBridgeUtilityGetRootBridges()
/ PciHostBridgeUtilityFreeRootBridges(). So let's rebase
ArmVirtPkg/FdtPciHostBridgeLib to PciHostBridgeUtilityGetRootBridges() /
PciHostBridgeUtilityFreeRootBridges() to extend ArmVirtPkg with extra

In NOOPT and DEBUG builds, if "PcdMaximumLinkedListLength" is nonzero,
then several LIST_ENTRY *node* APIs in BaseLib compare the *full* list
length against the PCD.
This turns the time complexity of node-level APIs from constant to linear,
and that of full-list manipulations from linear to quadratic.
(See some example OVMF numbers in the previous patch.)
Checking list lengths against an arbitrary maximum -- default value, and
current ArmVirtPkg setting: 1,000,000 -- seems useless even in NOOPT and
DEBUG builds, while the cost is significant; so set the PCD to 0.

given by "PcdShellFileOperationSize", whose default in
"ShellPkg/ShellPkg.dec" is 4KB (0x1000).
The virtio-fs daemon of QEMU advertizes a 128KB maximum buffer size by
default, for the FUSE_WRITE operation.
By raising PcdShellFileOperationSize 32-fold, the number of FUSE write
requests shrinks proportionately, when writing large files. And when a
Virtio Filesystem is not used, a 128KB chunk size is still not
particularly wasteful.

"vm_image: 'ubuntu-latest'" now refers to Ubuntu Focal (20.04LTS), not
Ubuntu Bionic (18.04LTS), according to
<https://github.com/actions/virtual-environments/issues/1816>.
In Focal, the "qemu" package is a dummy package with no dependencies, and
so the actual emulators are not pulled in. Compare:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/qemuhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/qemu
This causes CI runs to fail.
It would be best to switch to the "qemu-system" package name, which
continues to depend on the emulators:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/qemu-systemhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/qemu-system
However, while that package does make the emulators available, the
emulators crash. So for now, stick with the previous Ubuntu environment,
which continues to be supported, per

Kvmtool is a virtual machine manager that enables hosting
KVM guests. Kvmtool emulates certain devices like serial
port, RTC, etc. essentially providing a virtual platform.
This patch adds support for kvmtool virtual platform.
Following is a brief description of the firmware
implementation choices:
- Serial Port: 16550 UART
On some platforms the 16550 UART is interfaced using
PCI. Therefore, the 16550 Serial port library is
dependent on the PCI library. The 16550 UART driver
checks the Device ID represented using the PCD
gEfiMdeModulePkgTokenSpaceGuid.PcdSerialPciDeviceInfo
to determine if the UART is behind PCI.
If the Device ID is 0xFF then the serial 16550 UART
is not behind PCI.
On Kvmtool the Serial 16550 UART is not behind PCI,
and therefore a combination of BasePciLibPciExpress
and BasePciExpressLib is used to satisfy the PCI
library dependency.
The PcdSerialPciDeviceInfo is also set to 0xFF to
indicate that the Serial 16550 UART is not behind
PCI. The PCD PcdSerialUseMmio is also set to TRUE
to indicate MMIO accesses are required for the
UART registers.
Additionally two instances of PlatformHookLibs are
provided EarlyFdt16550SerialPortHookLib and
Fdt16550SerialPortHookLib to patch the
PcdSerialRegisterBase so that BaseSerialPortLib16550
and retrieve the base address of the 16550 UART.
- Dependency order for Flash
FaultTolerantWriteDxe makes use of PCDs (e.g.
PcdFlashNvStorageFtwSpareBase64 etc.), which in
case of kvmtool will be evaluated based on the CFI
flash base address read from the DT. These variables
are populated in the NorFlashPlatformLib loaded by
ArmVeNorFlashDxe.
This results in a dependency issue with
FaultTolerantWriteDxe. To resolve this make the
NorFlashPlatformLib as a library dependency for
FaultTolerantWriteDxe.
- RTC Controller
A separate patch updates the MC146818 RTC controller
driver to support MMIO accesses.
A KvmtoolRtcFdtClientLib has been introduced to
extract the base addresses of the RTC controller
from the platform device tree and map the RTC
register space as Runtime Memory.

The BaseSerialPort16550 library invokes the

part of the PlatformHook library, to perform platform
specific initialization required to enable use of the
16550 device. The BaseSerialPort16550 library uses
the PcdSerialRegisterBase to obtain the base address
of the UART for MMIO operations.
Some VMMs like Kvmtool provide the base address of
the console serial port in the platform device tree.
This patch introduces two instances of the Platform
Hook library:
1. EarlyFdt16550SerialPortHookLib - parses the
platform device tree to extract the base
address of the 16550 UART and update the PCD
PcdSerialRegisterBase.
2. Fdt16550SerialPortHookLib - reads the GUID
Hob gEarly16550UartBaseAddressGuid (that caches
the base address of the 16550 UART discovered
during early stages) and updates the PCD
PcdSerialRegisterBase.
Note:
a. The PCD PcdSerialRegisterBase is configured
as PatchableInModule.
b. A separate patch introduces a PlatformPeiLib

from the Pcd PcdSerialRegisterBase to the

Our UEFI guest firmware takes ownership of the emulated NOR flash in
order to support the variable runtime services, and it does not expect
the OS to interfere with the underlying storage directly. So disable
the NOR flash DT nodes as we discover them, in a way similar to how we
disable the PL031 RTC in the device tree when we attach our RTC runtime
driver to it.
Note that this also hides the NOR flash bank that carries the UEFI
executable code, but this is not intended to be updatable from inside
the guest anyway, and if it was, we should use capsule update to do so.
Also, the first -pflash argument that defines the backing for this flash
bank is often issued with the 'readonly' modifier, in order to prevent
any changes whatsoever to be made to the executable firmware image by
the guest.

The LoadImage() boot service is a bit unusual in that it allocates
resources in a particular failure case; namely, it produces a valid
"ImageHandle" when it returns EFI_SECURITY_VIOLATION. This is supposed to
happen e.g. when Secure Boot verification fails for the image, but the
platform policy for the particular image origin (such as "fixed media" or
"removable media") is DEFER_EXECUTE_ON_SECURITY_VIOLATION. The return code
allows platform logic to selectively override the verification failure,
and launch the image nonetheless.
ArmVirtPkg/PlatformBootManagerLib does not override EFI_SECURITY_VIOLATION
for the kernel image loaded from fw_cfg -- any LoadImage() error is
considered fatal. When we simply treat EFI_SECURITY_VIOLATION like any
other LoadImage() error, we leak the resources associated with
"KernelImageHandle". From a resource usage perspective,
EFI_SECURITY_VIOLATION must be considered "success", and rolled back.
Implement this rollback, without breaking the proper "nesting" of error
handling jumps and labels.

In some cases, the CLANG38 toolchain profile in LTO mode emits GOT
based relocations in spite of our attempts to avoid this, by using
hidden visibility, -Bsymbolic etc.
On AARCH64, we managed to work around this by processing the GOT
based relocations in GenFw. As it turns out, the same issue exists
on 32-bit ARM, but unfortunately, we cannot use a similar trick to
get rid of the GOT entry, and the relocation metadata is insufficient
to locate the GOT entry in the binary.
Note that in this particular case, we are interested in PIE linking
only (i.e., producing a .rela section containing dynamic relocations
that the startup code can process directly), and not in position
independent code generation, and by passing the -pie option to the
linker directly using -Wl,-pie (and dropping -shared), we can coerce
the GOLD linker into doing only the former rather than both when it
performs its LTO code generation.

The EFI_RETURN_STATUS_EXTENDED_DATA feature from PI-1.7
(<https://mantis.uefi.org/mantis/view.php?id=1885>) enables platform code
to learn about boot option failures (loading and launching) via status
codes reported by the UEFI Boot Manager.
In commit 59541d4163, we removed all status code support from
ArmVirtPkg. Reenable that support now, minimally, just to the extent so we
can benefit from the PI-1.7 feature mentioned above:
(1) Include the ReportStatusCodeRouterRuntimeDxe driver.
This driver produces two protocols, EFI_STATUS_CODE_PROTOCOL and
EFI_RSC_HANDLER_PROTOCOL. The former allows DXE phase modules and
runtime modules to report (produce) status codes. The latter allows
the same types of modules to register callbacks for status code
handling (consumption).
(Handler registration occurs only at boot time. Status codes are
delivered to each handler at runtime as well, unless the handler is
unregistered at ExitBootServices().)
(2) Resolve ReportStatusCodeLib to a non-Null instance, for DXE_DRIVER
modules only. This way DXE_DRIVER modules that use the
REPORT_STATUS_CODE_EX() macro and friends will reach
EFI_STATUS_CODE_PROTOCOL from point (1).
(3) Set PcdReportStatusCodePropertyMask to 3 (the default value is 0).
This causes the REPORT_STATUS_CODE_EX() macro and friends to let
Progress Codes (bit#0) and Error Codes (bit#1) through to point (1).
Debug Codes (bit#2) are filtered out.
(4) Include no driver, for now, that registers any status code handler via
EFI_RSC_HANDLER_PROTOCOL, from point (1). Status codes that reach
ReportStatusCodeRouterRuntimeDxe will be thrown away.
(5) Modify only the ArmVirtQemu* platforms. A status code handler will
be added to "ArmVirtPkg/Library/PlatformBootManagerLib" in the next patch,
and this library instance is not consumed by ArmVirtXen.

The current ArmVirtMemoryInitPeiLib code splits the memory region passed
via PcdSystemMemoryBase/PcdSystemMemorySize in two if the region extends
beyond the MAX_ADDRESS limit. This was introduced for 32-bit ARM, which
may support more than 4 GB of physical address space, but cannot address
all of it via a 1:1 mapping, and a single region that is not mappable
in its entirety is unusable by the PEI core.
AArch64 is in a similar situation now: platforms may support more than
256 TB of physical address space, but only 256 TB is addressable by the
CPU, and so a memory region that extends from below this limit to above
it should be split.

The self-relocating PrePi module that is used by the ArmVirtQemuKernel
and ArmVirtXen targets runs the linker in PIE mode so that it emits
dynamic relocations into the final image in a way that permits the
module to relocate itself into place before calling into the C code.
When building these targets using the CLANG38 toolchain, we switch
from the BFD to the GOLD linker, which behaves a bit differently when
building PIE executables, and insists on emitting GOT indirected symbol
references throughout, which means a) that we end up with absolute
addresses (which need to be fixed up at load time) for no good reason,
and b) we have to add support for handling GOT entries to GenFw if we
want to convert them into PE/COFF.
So instead, let's emit a shared library. Since the ELF image only serves
as the input to GenFw, this does not lead to any loss of functionality,
although it does require the -Bsymbolic linker option to be added to
ensure that no symbol based dynamic relocations are emitted (which
would, e.g., permit lazy binding for shared libraries). So for all
other toolchains, the linker option changes are a no-op.
Then, we have to convince CLANG38/GOLD that there is no need to refer
to symbols via a GOT entry. This is done by forcing hidden visibility
for all symbols in all components that make up the PrePi SEC module:
this informs the linker that a symbol is never exported or preempted,
making it safe to refer to it directly from anywhere in the code,
rather than indirectly via a GOT entry.

decoding is not supported by KVM.
Given that the first page of the flash device is not actually
used anyway, let's reduce the mappings of the peripheral space
and the flash device (both of which cover page #0) to only cover
what is actually required:
ArmVirtQemu.fdf:
> 0x00001000|0x001ff000
> gArmTokenSpaceGuid.PcdFvBaseAddress|gArmTokenSpaceGuid.PcdFvSize
ArmVirtQemuKernel.fdf:
> 0x00008000|0x001f8000
> gArmTokenSpaceGuid.PcdFvBaseAddress|gArmTokenSpaceGuid.PcdFvSize
For ArmVirtQemu, the resulting virtual mapping looks roughly like:
- [0, 4K) : flash, unmapped
- [4K, 2M) : flash, mapped as WB+X RAM
- [2M, 64M) : flash, unmapped
- [64M, 128M) : varstore flash, will be mapped by the NOR flash driver
- [128M, 256M) : peripherals, mapped as device
- [256M, 1GB) : 32-bit MMIO aperture, translated IO aperture, ECAM,
will be mapped by the PCI host bridge driver
- [1GB, ...) : RAM, mapped.
After this change, any inadvertent read or write from/to the first
physical page will trigger a translation fault inside the guest,
regardless of the nature of the instruction, without crashing QEMU.

runtime updatable in our case. So exposing it to the NOR flash

keep anything there that we care to expose. (the SEC and PEI

Now that we are about to make changes to how ArmVirtQemu reasons

NorFlashQemuLib is one of the last remaining drivers in ArmVirtPkg
that are not based on the device tree received from QEMU.
For ArmVirtQemu, this does not really matter, given that the NOR
flash banks are always the same: the PEI code is linked to execute
in place from flash bank #0, and the fixed varstore PCDs refer to
flash bank #1 directly.
However, ArmVirtQemuKernel can execute at any offset, permitting it
to be used as an intermediary loader when running QEMU with secure
world emulation enabled, in which case NOR flash bank #0 is secure
only and contains the secure world firmware. In this case,
NorFlashQemuLib should not expose the first flash bank at all.
To prevent introducing too much internal knowledge about which flash
bank is accessible under which circumstances, let's switch to using
the DTB to decide which flash banks to expose to the NOR flash driver.
