With the help of the VirtioFsFuseOpenDir() and
VirtioFsFuseReleaseFileOrDir() functions introduced previously, we can now
open and close the root directory. So let's implement
EFI_SIMPLE_FILE_SYSTEM_PROTOCOL.OpenVolume().
OpenVolume() creates a new EFI_FILE_PROTOCOL object -- a reference to the
root directory of the filesystem. Thus, we have to start tracking
references to EFI_SIMPLE_FILE_SYSTEM_PROTOCOL, lest we unbind the
virtio-fs device while files are open.
There are two methods that release an EFI_FILE_PROTOCOL object: the
Close() and the Delete() member functions. In particular, they are not
allowed to fail with regard to resource management -- they must release
resources unconditionally. Thus, for rolling back the resource accounting
that we do in EFI_SIMPLE_FILE_SYSTEM_PROTOCOL.OpenVolume(), we have to
implement the first versions of EFI_FILE_PROTOCOL.Close() and
EFI_FILE_PROTOCOL.Delete() in this patch as well.
With this patch applied, the UEFI shell can enter the root directory of
the Virtio Filesystem (such as with the "FS3:" shell command), and the
"DIR" shell command exercises FUSE_OPENDIR and FUSE_RELEASEDIR, according
to the virtiofsd log. The "DIR" command reports the root directory as if
it were empty; probably because at this time, we only allow the shell to
open and to close the root directory, but not to read it.

Add the VirtioFsInit(), VirtioFsUninit(), and VirtioFsExitBoot()
functions.
In VirtioFsInit():
- Verify the host-side config of the virtio-fs device.
- Save the filesystem label ("tag") for later, from the configuration area
of the virtio-fs device.
- Save the virtio queue size for later as well.
- Set up the virtio ring for sending requests.
In VirtioFsUninit():
- Reset the device.
- Tear down the virtio ring.
In VirtioFsExitBoot():
- Reset the device.
With this patch, the UEFI connect / disconnect controller operations
involve virtio setup / teardown; they are visible in the virtio-fs
daemon's log file. The virtiofsd log also confirms the device reset in
VirtioFsExitBoot(), when an OS is booted while the virtio-fs device is
bound.

Complete the Supported, Start, and Stop member functions of
EFI_DRIVER_BINDING_PROTOCOL sufficiently for exercising the UEFI driver
model:
- bind virtio-fs devices,
- produce placeholder EFI_SIMPLE_FILE_SYSTEM_PROTOCOL instances on them.
On the "TO_START" (= Virtio) side, the VirtioFsBindingSupported() function
verifies the Virtio subsystem ID for the virtio-fs device (decimal 26 --
see
<https://github.com/oasis-tcs/virtio-spec/blob/87fa6b5d8155/virtio-fs.tex>).
Beyond that, no actual Virtio setup is performed for now. Those bits are
going to be implemented later in this series.
On the "BY_START" (= UEFI filesystem) side, the VirtioFsOpenVolume()
function -- which is the sole EFI_SIMPLE_FILE_SYSTEM_PROTOCOL member
function -- is a stub; it always returns EFI_NO_MEDIA, for now.
The "CONNECT", "DISCONNECT", and "MAP -R" UEFI Shell commands can be used
to test this patch.

It is anticipated that this part of the code will work for both Intel
TDX and AMD SEV, so remove the SEV specific naming and change to
ConfidentialComputing as a more architecture neutral prefix. Apart

Although the SEV secret location must always be below 4GB, the same is
not necessarily true for Intel TDX, so change the configuration table
to contain a pair of UINT64 parameters instead of UINT32 so that any X64

Under SEV-ES, a IOIO_PROT intercept generates a #VC exception. VMGEXIT
must be used to allow the hypervisor to handle this intercept.
Add support to construct the required GHCB values to support a IOIO_PROT
NAE event. Parse the instruction that generated the #VC exception,
setting the required register values in the GHCB and creating the proper
SW_EXITINFO1 value in the GHCB.

Sean reports that having two DEC files under OvmfPkg violates the DEC
spec:
> An EDK II Package (directory) is a directory that contains an EDK II
> package declaration (DEC) file. Only one DEC file is permitted per
> directory. EDK II Packages cannot be nested within other EDK II
> Packages.
This issue originates from commit 656419f922 ("Add BhyvePkg, to support
the bhyve hypervisor", 2020-07-31).
Remedy the problem as follows. (Note that these steps are not split to
multiple patches in order to keep Bhyve buildable across the transition.)
(1) Delete "OvmfPkg/Bhyve/BhyvePkg.dec".
(2) Point the [Packages] sections of the Bhyve-specific AcpiPlatformDxe,
BhyveRfbDxe, and BhyveFwCtlLib INF files to "OvmfPkg.dec".
(3) Migrate the artifacts that "BhyvePkg.dec" used to have on top of
"OvmfPkg.dec" as follows:
(3a) Merge the copyright notices from Rebecca Cran and Pluribus Networks
into "OvmfPkg.dec".
(3b) Merge the "BhyveFwCtlLib" class header definition into "OvmfPkg.dec".
(3c) Merge value 0x2F8 for the fixed PcdDebugIoPort into
"BhyvePkgX64.dsc".
(4) Unnest the the Include/Library/ and Library/ subtrees from under
OvmfPkg/Bhyve to the corresponding, preexistent subtrees in OvmfPkg.
The goal is to keep the [Includes] section in the "OvmfPkg.dec" file
unchanged, plus simplify references in "BhyvePkgX64.dsc". Non-library
modules remain under "OvmfPkg/Bhyve/".
(4a) The BhyveFwCtlLib class header, and sole instance, are already
uniquely named, so their movements need not involve file renames.
(4b) Rename the Bhyve-specific PlatformBootManagerLib instance to
PlatformBootManagerLibBhyve, in additon to moving it, for
distinguishing it from OvmfPkg's preexistent lib instance. Apply the
name change to all three of the lib instance directory name, the INF
file, and the BASE_NAME define in the INF file.
(4c) Update lib class resolutions in "BhyvePkgX64.dsc" accordingly.
(5) Replace the "ACPI table storage" FILE_GUID in
"OvmfPkg/Bhyve/AcpiTables/AcpiTables.inf" with a new GUID, and
open-code the "ACPI table storage" GUID in the "ACPITABLE" FDF rule
instead, replacing $(NAMED_GUID). This step is necessary because CI
requires unique FILE_GUIDs over all INF files, and OVMF's original
"AcpiTables.inf" already uses the "ACPI table storage" GUID as
FILE_GUID.

This is the second part of LsiScsiPassThru(). LsiScsiProcessRequest() is
added to translate the SCSI Request Packet into the LSI 53C895A
commands. This function utilizes the so-called Script buffer to transmit
a series of commands to the chip and then polls the DMA Status (DSTAT)
register until the Scripts Interrupt Instruction Received (SIR) bit
sets. Once the script is done, the SCSI Request Packet will be modified
to reflect the result of the script. The Cumulative SCSI Byte Count
(CSBC) register is fetched before and after the script to calculate the
transferred bytes and update InTransferLength/OutTransferLength if
necessary.

In an upcoming patch, we will introduce a separate DXE driver that
exposes the virtual SimpleFileSystem implementation that carries the
kernel and initrd passed via the QEMU command line, and a separate
library that consumes it, to be incorporated into the boot manager.
Since the GUID used for the SimpleFileSystem implementation's device
path will no longer be for internal use only, create a well defined
GUID to identify the media device path.

QEMU commit 3a61c8db9d25 ("acpi: cpuhp: add CPHP_GET_CPU_ID_CMD command",
2020-01-22) introduced a new command in the modern CPU hotplug register
block that lets the firmware query the arch-specific IDs (on IA32/X64: the
APIC IDs) of CPUs. Add a macro for this command value, because we'll need
it later.
At the same time, add a sanity check for the modern hotplug interface to
CpuHotplugSmm.

Add a new SMM driver skeleton that registers a root SMI handler, and
checks if the SMI control value (written to 0xB2) indicates a CPU hotplug
SMI.
QEMU's ACPI payload will cause the OS to raise a broadcast SMI when a CPU
hotplug event occurs, namely by writing value 4 to IO Port 0xB2. In other
words, control value 4 is now allocated for this purpose; introduce the
ICH9_APM_CNT_CPU_HOTPLUG macro for it.
The standard identifiers in this driver use the new MM (Management Mode)
terminology from the PI spec, not the earlier SMM (System Management Mode)
terms.

In Intel datasheet 316966-002 (the "q35 spec"), Table 5-1 "DRAM Controller
Register Address Map (D0:F0)" leaves the byte register at config space
offset 0x9C unused.
On QEMU's Q35 board, for detecting the "SMRAM at default SMBASE" feature,
firmware is expected to write MCH_DEFAULT_SMBASE_QUERY (0xFF) to offset
MCH_DEFAULT_SMBASE_CTL (0x9C), and read back the register. If the value is
MCH_DEFAULT_SMBASE_IN_RAM (0x01), then the feature is available, and the
range mentioned below is open (accessible to code running outside of SMM).
Then, once firmware writes MCH_DEFAULT_SMBASE_LCK (0x02) to the register,
the MCH_DEFAULT_SMBASE_SIZE (128KB) range at 0x3_0000 (SMM_DEFAULT_SMBASE)
gets closed and locked down, and the register becomes read-only. The area
is reopened, and the register becomes read/write, at platform reset.
Add the above-listed macros to "Q35MchIch9.h".
(There are some other unused offsets in Table 5-1; for example we had
scavenged 0x50 for implementing the extended TSEG feature. 0x9C is the
first byte-wide register standing in isolation after 0x50.)

In v1.5.0, QEMU's "pc" (i440fx) board gained a "CPU present bitmap"
register block. In v2.0.0, this was extended to the "q35" board.
In v2.7.0, a new (read/write) register interface was laid over the "CPU
present bitmap", with an option for the guest to switch the register block
to the new (a.k.a. modern) interface.
Both interfaces are documented in "docs/specs/acpi_cpu_hotplug.txt" in the
QEMU tree.
Add macros for a minimal subset of the modern interface, just so we can
count the possible CPUs (as opposed to boot CPUs) in a later patch in this
series.

Allow to use Xen hypercalls earlier, during the PEIM stage, but
XenHypercallLibInit() must be called once the XenInfo HOB is created
with the HyperPage setup.
Change the return value of XenHypercallLibInit so failure can be
detected when the call shouldn't fail, but still have the constructor
always succeed.

mXenHvmloaderInfo isn't used yet, but will be use in a further patch to
retrieve the E820 table.

Introduce the Platform Boot Manager Print Status Code Library (for short,
PlatformBmPrintScLib) class for catching and printing the LoadImage() /
StartImage() preparations, and return statuses, that are reported by
UefiBootManagerLib.
In the primary library instance, catch only such status codes that
UefiBootManagerLib reports from the same module that contains
PlatformBmPrintScLib. The intent is to establish a reporting-printing
channel within BdsDxe, between UefiBootManagerLib and
PlatformBmPrintScLib. Ignore status codes originating elsewhence, e.g.
from UiApp's copy of UefiBootManagerLib.

Replace the manual capability list parsing in OvmfPkg/Virtio10Dxe with
PciCapLib and PciCapPciIoLib API calls.
The VIRTIO_PCI_CAP_LINK structure type is now superfluous. (Well, it
always has been; we should have used EFI_PCI_CAPABILITY_HDR.)
Also, EFI_PCI_CAPABILITY_VENDOR_HDR is now included at the front of
VIRTIO_PCI_CAP. No driver other than Virtio10Dxe relies on VIRTIO_PCI_CAP.

Add a library class, and a UEFI_DRIVER lib instance, that are layered on
top of PciCapLib, and allow clients to plug an EFI_PCI_IO_PROTOCOL backend
into PciCapLib, for config space access.
(Side note:
Although the UEFI spec says that EFI_PCI_IO_PROTOCOL_CONFIG() returns
EFI_UNSUPPORTED if "[t]he address range specified by Offset, Width, and
Count is not valid for the PCI configuration header of the PCI
controller", this patch doesn't directly document the EFI_UNSUPPORTED
error code, for ProtoDevTransferConfig() and its callers
ProtoDevReadConfig() and ProtoDevWriteConfig(). Instead, the patch refers
to "unspecified error codes". The reason is that in edk2, the
PciIoConfigRead() and PciIoConfigWrite() functions [1] can also return
EFI_INVALID_PARAMETER for the above situation.
Namely, PciIoConfigRead() and PciIoConfigWrite() first call
PciIoVerifyConfigAccess(), which indeed produces the standard
EFI_UNSUPPORTED error code, if the device's config space is exceeded.
However, if PciIoVerifyConfigAccess() passes, and we reach
RootBridgeIoPciRead() and RootBridgeIoPciWrite() [2], then
RootBridgeIoCheckParameter() can still fail, e.g. if the root bridge
doesn't support extended config space (see commit 014b472053).
For all kinds of Limit violations in IO, MMIO, and config space,
RootBridgeIoCheckParameter() returns EFI_INVALID_PARAMETER, not
EFI_UNSUPPORTED. That error code is then propagated up to, and out of,
PciIoConfigRead() and PciIoConfigWrite().

Add a library class, and a BASE lib instance, that are layered on top of
PciCapLib, and allow clients to plug a PciSegmentLib backend into
PciCapLib, for config space access.
(Side note:
The "MaxDomain" parameter is provided because, in practice, platforms
exist where a PCI Express device may show up on a root bridge such that
the root bridge doesn't support access to extended config space. Earlier
the same issue was handled for MdeModulePkg/PciHostBridgeDxe in commit
014b472053. However, that solution does not apply to the PciSegmentLib
class, because:
(1) The config space accessor functions of the PciSegmentLib class, such
as PciSegmentReadBuffer(), have no way of informing the caller whether
access to extended config space actually succeeds.
(For example, in the UefiPciSegmentLibPciRootBridgeIo instace, which
could in theory benefit from commit 014b472053, the
EFI_PCI_ROOT_BRIDGE_IO_PROTOCOL.Pci.Read() status code is explicitly
ignored, because there's no way for the lib instance to propagate it
to the PciSegmentLib caller. If the
EFI_PCI_ROOT_BRIDGE_IO_PROTOCOL.Pci.Read() call fails, then
DxePciSegmentLibPciRootBridgeIoReadWorker() returns Data with
indeterminate value.)
(2) There is no *general* way for any firmware platform to provide, or
use, a PciSegmentLib instance in which access to extended config space
always succeeds.
In brief, on a platform where config space may be limited to 256 bytes,
access to extended config space through PciSegmentLib may invoke undefined
behavior; therefore PciCapPciSegmentLib must give platforms a way to
prevent such access.)

BLOCK_MMIO_PROTOCOL and BlockMmioToBlockIoDxe were introduced to OvmfPkg
in March 2010, in adjacent commits b0f5144676 and efd82c5794. In the
past eight years, no driver or application seems to have materialized that
produced BLOCK_MMIO_PROTOCOL instances. Meanwhile the UEFI spec has
developed the EFI_RAM_DISK_PROTOCOL, which edk2 implements (and OVMF
includes) as RamDiskDxe.
Rather than fixing issues in the unused BlockMmioToBlockIoDxe driver,
remove the driver, together with the BLOCK_MMIO_PROTOCOL definition that
now becomes unused too.

QemuBootOrderLib expects PlatformBootManagerLib to call the following
triplet:
(1) EfiBootManagerConnectAll(),
(2) EfiBootManagerRefreshAllBootOption(),
(3) SetBootOrderFromQemu().
This leads to bad performance, when many devices exist such that the
firmware can drive them, but they aren't marked for booting in the
"bootorder" fw_cfg file. Namely,
(1) EfiBootManagerConnectAll() talks to all hardware, which takes long.
Plus some DriverBindingStart() functions write NV variables, which is
also slow. (For example, the IP config policy for each NIC is stored
in an NV var that is named after the MAC).
(2) EfiBootManagerRefreshAllBootOption() generates boot options from the
protocol instances produced by (1). Writing boot options is slow.
(3) Under the above circumstances, SetBootOrderFromQemu() removes most of
the boot options produced by (2). Erasing boot options is slow.
Introduce ConnectDevicesFromQemu() as a replacement for (1): only connect
devices that the QEMU user actually wants to boot off of.
(There's a slight loss of compatibility when a platform switches from
EfiBootManagerConnectAll() to ConnectDevicesFromQemu().
EfiBootManagerConnectAll() may produce UEFI device paths that are unknown
to QemuBootOrderLib (that is, for neither PCI- nor virtio-mmio-based
devices). The BootOrderComplete() function lets such unmatched boot
options survive at the end of the boot order. With
ConnectDevicesFromQemu(), these options will not be auto-generated in the
first place. They may still be produced by other means.
SetBootOrderFromQemu() is not modified in any way; reordering+filtering
boot options remains a separate task.)

In the next three patches, we're going to modify three modules under
OvmfPkg. When OVMF is built with -D SMM_REQUIRE and runs in an SEV guest,
each affected module will have to know the page range that covers the
initial (pre-SMBASE relocation) SMRAM save state map. Add a helper

QEMU has recently gained the ability to provide various hints about its
PCI bridges. The hints take the form of vendor-specific PCI capabilities.
Define macros and types under "OvmfPkg/Include/IndustryStandard" to
describe these capabilities.
The definitions correspond to "docs/pcie_pci_bridge.txt" in the QEMU tree.
Said documentation was added in the last commit of the following series:

* Introduce the PIIX4_PAM* and MCH_PAM* macros under
"OvmfPkg/Include/IndustryStandard". These macros capture the PAM
register offsets (in PCI config space) on the respective Memory
Controller B/D/F, from the respective data sheets.

This feature indicates that the device is behind an IOMMU that translates
bus addresses from the device into physical addresses in memory. If this
feature bit is set to 0, then the device emits physical addresses which
are not translated further, even though an IOMMU may be present.

The patch change the "BufferPhysAddr" parameter of VirtioAppendDesc()
from type UINTN to UINT64.
UINTN is appropriate as long as we pass system memory references. After
the introduction of bus master device addresses, that's no longer the case
in general. Should we implement "real" IOMMU support at some point, UINTN
could break in 32-bit builds of OVMF.

The VRING buffer is a communication area between guest and hypervisor.
Allocate it using VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL.AllocateSharedPages() so that
it can be mapped later with VirtioRingMap() for bi-directional access.

For the case when an IOMMU is used for translating system physical
addresses to DMA bus master addresses, the transport-independent
virtio device drivers will be required to map their VRING areas to
bus addresses with VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL.MapSharedBuffer() calls.
- MMIO and legacy virtio transport do not support IOMMU to translate the
addresses hence RingBaseShift will always be set to zero.
- modern virtio transport supports IOMMU to translate the address, in
next patch we will update the Virtio10Dxe to use RingBaseShift offset.

The function can be used for mapping the system physical address to virtio
device address using VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL.MapSharedBuffer (). The
function helps with centralizing error handling, and it allows the caller
to pass in constant or other evaluated expressions for NumberOfBytes.

The patch extends VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL to provide the following new
member functions:
- AllocateSharedPages : allocate a memory region suitable for sharing
between guest and hypervisor (e.g ring buffer).
- FreeSharedPages: free the memory allocated using AllocateSharedPages ().
- MapSharedBuffer: map a host address to device address suitable to share
with device for bus master operations.
- UnmapSharedBuffer: unmap the device address obtained through the
MapSharedBuffer().
We're free to extend the protocol structure without changing the protocol
GUID, or bumping any protocol version fields (of which we currently have
none), because VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL is internal to edk2 by design --
see the disclaimers in "VirtioDevice.h".
The patch implements Laszlo's recommendation [1].

This adds a header file defining symbolic constants for the VMWare SVGA
virtual display device in preparation for supporting it in
QemuVideoDxe.
It is mostly an extract of the file lib/vmware/svga_reg.h from commit
329dd537456f93a806841ec8a8213aed11395def of VMWare's vmware-svga
repository at git://git.code.sf.net/p/vmware-svga/git (See also
http://vmware-svga.sourceforge.net/ )
Only the bare essentials necessary for initialisation, modesetting and
framebuffer access have been kept from the original file; macro names
have been prefixed with VMWARE_SVGA_ instead of SVGA2_, and the enum
definition has been adapted to comply with EDK2 naming conventions.
The original file was released by VMWare under the MIT license, this
has been retained.

Introduce the following APIs:
- QemuFwCfgS3CallWhenBootScriptReady(): central function that registers a
callback function, with a context parameter, for when ACPI S3 Boot
Script opcodes can be produced. This function also allocates reserved
memory for the opcodes to operate upon.
The client module is supposed to produce the boot script fragment in the
callback function.
- QemuFwCfgS3ScriptWriteBytes(), QemuFwCfgS3ScriptReadBytes(),
QemuFwCfgS3ScriptSkipBytes(), QemuFwCfgS3ScriptCheckValue(): helper
functions, available only to the above callback function, for composing
the boot script fragment. QemuFwCfgS3ScriptSkipBytes() can double as a
plain "select" whenever necessary.

At this point we're ready to retire QemuFwCfgS3Enabled() from the
QemuFwCfgLib class, together with its implementations in:
- ArmVirtPkg/Library/QemuFwCfgLib/QemuFwCfgLib.c
- OvmfPkg/Library/QemuFwCfgLib/QemuFwCfgLib.c
Extend all modules that call the function with a new QemuFwCfgS3Lib class
dependency. Thanks to the previously added library class, instances, and
class resolutions, we can do this switch now as tightly as possible.

This library class will enable driver modules (a) to query whether S3
support was enabled on the QEMU command line, (b) to produce fw_cfg DMA
operations that are to be replayed at S3 resume time.
Declare the library class in OvmfPkg/OvmfPkg.dec, and add the library
class header under OvmfPkg/Include/Library/. At the moment, the only API
we expose is QemuFwCfgS3Enabled(), which we'll first migrate from
QemuFwCfgLib. Further interfaces will be added in later patches.

Introduce the new public API QemuFwCfgSkipBytes(), for advancing over
bytes in the selected firmware configuration item without transferring
data between the item and the caller.
When the DMA interface is available (the common case), the operation is
instantaneous. As a fallback, provide a loop of chunked reads into a small
stack-allocated scratch buffer.
This patch enables OvmfPkg/QemuFwCfgLib to overwrite part of a writeable
fw_cfg file, which will be particularly useful for the upcoming
QEMU_LOADER_WRITE_POINTER command in OvmfPkg/AcpiPlatformDxe.

EFI_BOOT_SCRIPT_PCI_CONFIG_READ_WRITE_OPCODE expects the PCI address to
access in UEFI encoding, not in edk2/PciLib encoding.

InternalQemuFwCfgIsAvailable() is an API that is incorrectly exposed by
the "OvmfPkg/Include/Library/QemuFwCfgLib.h" library class header; the API
is meant to be used internally to library instances (if it's needed at
all).
In OvmfPkg, we have two lib instances (for SEC and PEI/DXE); they provide
different implementations of InternalQemuFwCfgIsAvailable(), for the
shared file "OvmfPkg/Library/QemuFwCfgLib/QemuFwCfgLib.c". Move the API
declaration to a new internal header called "QemuFwCfgLibInternal.h", and
drop EFIAPI in the process.

The GPU additions to VirtIo 1.0 are a work in progress. Mark the relevant
URLs in the source code. Incorporate the absolute minimum from the WIP
spec that is necessary for implementing a GOP driver.
Add the VIRTIO_SUBSYSTEM_GPU_DEVICE macro to
"IndustryStandard/Virtio10.h", since all other such macros (dating back to
VirtIo 0.9.5) are part of "IndustryStandard/Virtio095.h".

With OvmfPkg's original QemuBootOrderLib (and USE_OLD_BDS) gone, we no
longer need the BootOptionList parameter in the SetBootOrderFromQemu()
prototype. Update the library class header file (including the function's
documentation), and adapt the library instance and the call sites.

According to the ICH9 spec, PMBASE "provides 128 bytes of I/O space for
ACPI, GPIO, and TCO logic. This is placed on a 128-byte boundary".
On the Q35 machine type of QEMU, our current PMBASE setting of 0xB000 is
the only thing that prevents us from lowering the base of the PCI IO port
aperture from 0xC000. (The base must be aligned to 0x1000 due to PCI
bridge requirements.)
By moving our PMBASE to 0x0600 (moving the register block to
0x0600..0x067F inclusive), which is also what SeaBIOS uses on Q35, we will
be able to lower the PCI IO port aperture base to 0x6000 (the next IO port
under it being taken by the "vmport" device, at fixed 0x5658), while
steering clear of other QEMU devices.
On PIIX4, freeing up the 0x1000 IO ports at 0xB000 wouldn't help much,
because the 0xA000 block right below it is occupied by unmovable devices
(see <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1333238#c19> for
details).
Doing this for Q35 only has two more benefits:
- It won't interfere with Xen guests,
- The Q35 machine type with the smallest version number is "pc-q35-2.4",
which is guaranteed to have an ACPI generator. This matters because the
ACPI tables (FACP, DSDT) have to reflect the PM base address that we
program.

In the next patches, we'll differentiate the PMBA IO port address that we
program on PIIX4 vs. Q35.
Normally we'd just turn PcdAcpiPmBaseAddress into a dynamic PCD. However,
because we need this value in BaseRomAcpiTimerLib too (which cannot access
RAM and dynamic PCDs), it must remain a build time constant. We will
introduce its Q35 counterpart later.
As first step, replace the PCD with a new macro in "OvmfPlatforms.h";
Jordan prefers the latter to fixed PCDs in this instance.

In VirtIo 1.0, a device can reject a self-inconsistent feature bitmap
through the new VSTAT_FEATURES_OK status bit. (For example if the driver
requests a higher level feature but clears a prerequisite feature.) This
function is a small wrapper around
VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL.SetGuestFeatures() that also verifies if the VirtIo
1.0 device accepts the feature bitmap.

In virtio-1.0, it is not enough to pass the base address of the virtio
queue to the hypervisor (as a frame number); instead it will want the
addresses of the descriptor table, the available ring, and the used ring
separately. Pass the VRING object to the SetQueueAddress() member
function; this will enable a virtio-1.0 implementation. Convert the
current producers and consumers to this prototype.

The virtio-1.0 spec widens the Features bitmap to 64 bits. Modify the
declarations of the GetDeviceFeatures() and SetGuestFeatures() protocol
member functions accordingly.
Normally, a protocol cannot be changed in incompatible ways if the GUID
stays the same; however, we've always been extremely clear that
VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL is internal to edk2. See for example the top of
"OvmfPkg/Include/Protocol/VirtioDevice.h".
In this patch, all producers and consumers of the GetDeviceFeatures() and
SetGuestFeatures() protocol members are updated.
The drivers that currently produce these members are "legacy" drivers (in
virtio-1.0 terminology), and they cannot (and will not) handle feature
bits above BIT31. Therefore their conversion is only for compatibility
with the modified protocol interface. The consumers will be responsible
for checking the VIRTIO_DEVICE_PROTOCOL.Revision field, and for not
passing feature bits that these backends cannot handle.
The VirtioMmioGetDeviceFeatures() implementation stores the result of an
MmioRead32() call with normal assignment, so it needs no change beyond
adapting its prototype.

QEMU's ACPI table generator can only create meaningful _CRS objects --
apertures -- for the root buses if all of the PCI devices behind those
buses are actively decoding their IO and MMIO resources, at the time of
the firmware fetching the "etc/table-loader" fw_cfg file. This is not a
QEMU error; QEMU follows the definition of BARs (which are meaningless
when decoding is disabled).
Currently we hook up AcpiPlatformDxe to the PCI Bus driver's
gEfiPciEnumerationCompleteProtocolGuid cue. Unfortunately, when the PCI
Bus driver installs this protocol, it's *still* not the right time for
fetching "etc/table-loader": although resources have been allocated and
BARs have been programmed with them, the PCI Bus driver has also cleared
IO and MMIO decoding in the command registers of the devices.
Furthermore, we couldn't reenable IO and MMIO decoding temporarily in our
gEfiPciEnumerationCompleteProtocolGuid callback even if we wanted to,
because at that time the PCI Bus driver has not produced PciIo instances
yet.
Our Platform BDSes are responsible for connecting the root bridges, hence
they know exactly when the PciIo instances become available -- not when
PCI enumeration completes (signaled by the above protocol), but when the
ConnectController() calls return.
This is when our Platform BDSes should explicitly cue in AcpiPlatformDxe.
Then AcpiPlatformDxe can temporarily enable IO and MMIO decoding for all
devices, while it contacts QEMU for the ACPI payload.
This patch introduces the event group GUID that we'll use for unleashing
AcpiPlatformDxe from our Platform BDSes.

Section 5.1.16 ("PCIEXBAR -- PCI Express Register Range Base Address") in
Intel document #316966-002 (already referenced near the top of this header
file) describes the Q35 DRAM Controller register that configures the
memory-mapped PCI config space (also known as MMCONFIG, and ECAM /
Enhanced Configuration Access Method).
In this patch we add the macros we'll need later. We'll only support the
256 MB memory-mapped config space -- enough for buses [0, 255].

VirtioLib provides an API for simple, synchronous (request/response-style)
virtio communication. The guest driver builds one descriptor chain, link
for link, with VirtioPrepare() and VirtioAppendDesc(), then submits the
chain, and awaits the processing, with VirtioFlush().
The descriptor chain is always built at the beginning of the descriptor
area, with the head descriptor having descriptor index 0.
In order to submit the descriptor chain to the host, the guest always
pushes a new "available element" to the Available Ring, in genuine
queue-like fashion, with the new element referencing the head descriptor
(which always has index 0, see above).
In turn, after processing, the host always pushes a new "used element" to
the Used Ring, in genuine queue-like fashion, with the new element
referencing the head descriptor of the chain that was just processed. The
same element also reports the number of bytes that the host wrote,
consecutively across the host-writeable buffers that were linked by the
descriptors.
(See "OvmfPkg/VirtioNetDxe/TechNotes.txt" for a diagram about the
descriptor area and the rings.)
Because at most one descriptor chain can be in flight with VirtioLib at
any time,
- the Available Ring and the Used Ring proceed in lock-step,
- and the head descriptor that the new "available" and "used" elements can
ever reference has index 0.
Based on the above, we can modify VirtioFlush() to return the number of
bytes written by the host across the descriptor chain. The virtio-block
and virtio-scsi drivers don't care (they have other ways to parse the data
produced by the host), while the virtio-net driver doesn't use
VirtioFlush() at all (it employs VirtioLib only to set up its rings).
However, the virtio entropy device, to be covered in the upcoming
patches, reports the amount of randomness produced by the host only
through this quantity.

This introduces the abstract XENIO_PROTOCOL that will be used to
communicate the Xen grant table address to drivers supporting this
protocol. Primary purpose is allowing us to change the XenBusDxe

This moves all of the Xen hypercall code that was private to XenBusDxe
to a new library class XenHypercallLib. This will allow us to reimplement
it for ARM, and to export the Xen hypercall functionality to other parts
of the code, such as a Xen console SerialPortLib driver.

The QEMU command line option
-boot menu=on
is meant to have the guest firmware wait for a firmware-specific interval
for the user to enter the boot menu. During the wait, the user can opt to
enter the boot menu, or interrupt the wait and proceed to booting at once.
If the wait interval elapses, the firmware should boot as it normally
would.
The QEMU command line option
-boot menu=on,splash-time=N
means the same, except the firmware should wait for cca. N milliseconds
instead of a firmware-specific interval.
We can approximate this behavior quite well for edk2's virtual platforms
because the Intel BDS front page already supports a progress bar, with
semantics similar to the above. Let's distill the fw_cfg bits underlying
"-boot menu=on,splash-time=N" for the BDS policies, in the form of a
timeout value they can pass to Intel's PlatformBdsEnterFrontPage().
If the boot menu is not requested, we return
"gEfiIntelFrameworkModulePkgTokenSpaceGuid.PcdPlatformBootTimeOut", which
is what the virtual platforms use right now.
If the boot menu is requested without specifying the timeout, we return
the same PCD, unless it would cause us to skip the boot menu at once. In
the latter case, we return 3 seconds (as an approximation of the 2500 ms
SeaBIOS default.)

Soon there will be more than one modules (in separate packages) that need
to have an understanding about the GUID used in the VenHw() device path
nodes that describe virtio-mmio transports. Define such a GUID explicitly.
Preserve the current value (which happens to be the FILE_GUID of
ArmPlatformPkg/ArmVirtualizationPkg/VirtFdtDxe/VirtFdtDxe.inf) for
compatibility with external users.

This is the code that will do the actual communication between OVMF and
a PV block backend, where the block device lives. The protocol used is
describe in the blkif.h header.
This implementation originally comes from Mini-OS, a part of the Xen
Project.

ParaVirtualized devices and initialize them by producing XenBus
protocol.

XenStore is a key/value database, which is running on another virtual
machine. It can be accessed through shared memory. This is a client
implementation.
Change in V3:

- fix return value of XenStoreListDirectory
- Use a timeout to print a debug message if the other side of the
xenstore ring does not notify through the event channel.
This is done with the new XenStoreWaitForEvent function.

- Have a loop to check for the quiescent of the response ring in the

This patch imports publics headers in order to use features from Xen
like XenStore, PV Block... There is only the necessary header files and
there are only a few modifications in order to facilitate future merge of
more recent header (that would be necessary to access new features).
There is little modification compared to the original files:
- Removed most of the unused part of the headers
- Use of ZeroMem() instead of memset()
- using #pragma pack(4) for IA32 compilation.
- Replace types to be more UEFI compliant using a script.
OVMF, when built for IA32 arch, uses the gcc switch -malign-double. This
change the alignment of fields in some struct compare to what is
espected by Xen and any backends. To fix the alignment, the #pragma pack(4)
directive is used around the struct that need it.

Names of firmware configuration files always take 56 bytes (including at
least one terminating NUL byte). Expose this constant to all consumers of
QemuFwCfgLib because further interfaces may depend on it.

The Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (and Windows 7) UEFI guest's default video driver
dereferences the real mode Int10h vector, loads the pointed-to handler
code, and executes what it thinks to be VGA BIOS services in an internal
real-mode emulator. Consequently, video mode switching doesn't work in
Windows 2008 R2 SP1 when it runs on the pure UEFI build of OVMF, making
the guest uninstallable.
This patch adds a VGABIOS "shim" to QemuVideoDxe. For the first stdvga or
QXL card bound, an extremely stripped down VGABIOS imitation is installed
in the C segment. It provides a real implementation for the few services
that are in fact necessary for the win2k8r2sp1 UEFI guest, plus some fakes
that the guest invokes but whose effect is not important.
The C segment is not present in the UEFI memory map prepared by OVMF. We
never add memory space that would cover it (either in PEI, in the form of
memory resource descriptor HOBs, or in DXE, via gDS->AddMemorySpace()).
This way the handler body is invisible to all non-buggy UEFI guests, and
the rest of edk2.
The Int10h real-mode IVT entry is covered with a Boot Services Code page,
making that too unaccessible to the rest of edk2. (Thus UEFI guest OSes
different from the Windows 2008 family can reclaim the page. The Windows
2008 family accesses the page at zero regardless of the allocation type.)
The patch is the result of collaboration:
Initial proof of concept IVT entry installation and handler skeleton (in
NASM) by Jordan Justen.
Service tracing and implementation, data collection/analysis, and C coding
by yours truly.
Last minute changes by Gerd Hoffmann:
- Use OEM mode number (0xf1) instead of standard 800x600 mode (0x143). The
resolution of the OEM mode (0xf1) is not standardized; the guest can't
expect anything from it in advance.
- Use 1024x768 rather than 800x600 for more convenience in the Windows
2008 R2 SP1 guest during OS installation, and after normal boot until
the QXL XDDM guest driver is installed.

This GUID should become a new "namespace" for UEFI variables that are
specific to OVMF configuration (as opposed to standard UEFI global
variables). We'll also use it as the GUID of the related HII form-set (ie.
the interactive user interface).

This internal function allows separation of library-internal and
for-clients external availability of fw_cfg.
The interface contract of QemuFwCfgIsAvailable() is changed so that now it
may modify fw_cfg state. All current users are compliant with the new
contract.
